A Special Landholder and Guest Fishing License ($50.00) may be obtained by the landholder of private property bordering inland or joint fishing waters, including public mountain trout waters. This license shall entitle the landholder and guests of the landholder to fish from the shore or any pier or dock originating from the property without any additional fishing license.
Cell Phones
With the exception of U S Cellular and Verizon, we do not have very good reception in the Heritage Shores Plantation area. It does not make any difference which service provider you use the signal strength is very weak. The last we heard is that Sprint is going to install a tower on route 17 in Hertford sometime in the near future and we are hoping that this will solve the problem at least for the Sprint users.
Electric
Our power is provided by Albemarle Electric Membership Corporation. The current rate is around $.076 per KWH with a fuel charge around $16.00 a month. So for 2,245 KWH it will run $171.97 with a $15.38 fuel charge and $5.62 for NC tax. In 2004 we lost our power a lot and for extended periods of time. But in 2005 they made some improvements to the grid in our area and we hardly lost power at all. If your interested in more information check out their web site at www.albemarle-emc.com.
Most Heritage Shores Plantation residents have flood insurance. The insurance runs around $317 a year and can be added on to your house insurance policy (at least Allstate does that). The interior lots are not required to have flood insurance but most of them do.
Homeowners Dues
Heritage Shores North Homeowners - Currently the association dues are $300 a year and it’s due by the end of June of each year.
Heritage Shores South Homeowners -

Currently the homes that sit on Yeopim Creek can receive high speed internet from Inteliport located in Hertford. Their web site is www.inteliport.com. So far one of the interior lots is receiving high speed internet from Inteliport with a special antenna. The current speed is 1 Meg download and 600K upload. As of 16 Dec 07 three other interior lots are on the Inteliports waiting list. Will keep you up to date on their status.
Property Tax (August 23, 2008)
The current property tax is $.41 per $100. So a home worth $300,000 will be around $1,230.00 a year. The value of your property is determined by the Perquimans County Tax Collector. Also there is a $120 solid waste fee to help pay for the trash center.
Some Heritage Shores Plantation residents have to pay a $50 a year fee for an Albemarle Regional Health Operation Permit for their septic and/or drainage system. The county also inspects this system once a year to make sure it’s working correctly.
Television
Currently we do not have cable in our area and an outside antenna does not receive a very good signal either. So satellite is the only way to go. Currently most residents use either DirecTv or Dish Network with hardly any complaints.
Trash Collection (August 23, 2008)
We do not have trash pickup. You are responsible for getting rid of your own trash. There is a trash center located about 6 miles from our location on route 17 and they take almost everything. They also have recycling bins for most products. There is a $120 a year solid waste fee attached to your property tax to help with the costs of the trash center. Also once a year the county has a household hazardous waste collection for the items that the trash center does not accept. For more information about waste collection check out www.arhs-nc.org/waste.
Vehicle Tax
Each year you will receive a bill for tax on your vehicle (or vehicles). The current vehicle tax is $.65 per $100. So a vehicle worth $15,000 will be around $97.50 a year. The value of your vehicle is determined by the Perquimans County Tax Collector.
Water
Heritage Shores Plantation is on Perquimans County water. You will receive a bill once a month. On 1 March 2007 Perquimans County will change how your water bill is computed. The new rates are based on a $10.00 minimum bill for up to 1,000 gallons. After 1,000 gallons of usage, the cost of water will be $6.00 per 1,000 gallons. Under the old system 3,000 gallons would have cost $17.10. Under the new system 3,000 gallons will cost $22.00.
